A clicker game about making cookies
Cookie Clicker is an idle game, sometimes referred to as a clicker game, in which the player’s goal is to make as many cookies as possible. The game starts out with the player having to manually click to get cookies. Eventually, this leads to upgrades that increase the player’s cookie-making capacity.
This game shares many of the traits found in other idle games, such as Idle Breakout and Business Tycoon Idle - Money Clicker Game. For example, there is not much gameplay, but the appeal of the game lies in progression and upgrades.
An idle clicker game about cookies
Idle — or clicker — games typically require no skill when it comes to gameplay. That is the case with Cookie Clicker, which essentially only requires the player to be able to click their mouse. Clicking on the cookie will grant the player a cookie. When the player has collected enough cookies, they can upgrade to things like idle clickers to receive cookies automatically.
Upgrades and progression
The first upgrade — allowing the player to continue receiving cookies even when they are not clicking — is the start of a large number of upgrades. Players can increase the number of cookies they earn per second by purchasing further upgrades, such as farms, mines, factories, and more. There is no real ending to the game, with the objective just being to make more cookies indefinitely.
Cookier and smarter
Cookie Clicker has been around since 2013 and has regularly received updates to add more content for players to experience and enjoy. As of this writing, there are 20 unique buildings to construct and help you bake thousands and millions of your delectable cookies. To complement them, you get to choose from over 600 upgrades to further boost production and maximize your yields to their full potential.
Then, there are the permanent heavenly upgrades you can unlock that grant unique perks and bonuses that alter your gameplay in all kinds of ways. To keep things interesting, you can strive to complete over 500 achievements throughout your gameplay that will have you do specific tasks or meet special conditions. There is also your dragon companion that will need regular pets and attention.
Break away for cookie-making and engage in some fun and engaging mini-games that you will unlock when you upgrade specific buildings up to a certain level. There are currently four that you can play, each with unique mechanics and distinct from one another. These are just some of the content that Cookie Clicker has created in its 10-plus years of existence, which is wild and impressive.
A casual gaming experience
Players looking for a challenging game will likely not enjoy Cookie Clicker, as it is certainly more of a casual experience. However, for players who enjoy a sense of progression and would perhaps like to play while doing other things—such as watching a movie — Cookie Clicker has proven to be very popular.
